Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center

The Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Laurel Regional Hospital is a unique health service dedicated to caring for people with wounds that have resisted healing. Clinically, a non-healing wound is one which has not shown signs of healing in four weeks or complete healing in eight weeks. Individuals with diabetes or circulation disorders, or those who have been bedridden for extended periods of time, often suffer from non-healing wounds.

The Center brings together a multi-specialty team of experienced doctors and nurses who combine knowledge in all areas of wound management. Together they offer comprehensive wound treatment with an overall healing rate of over 94 percent for patients who complete treatment based on outcomes measurement data.

Benefits of the Wound Care Center’s approach to healing include a high level of prevention of prolonged and/or permanent disability. Patients are able to see different specialists within our multi-disciplinary wound care physician panel.

Specialists at the Wound Care Center include:

  • Vascular Surgeons
  • Podiatrists
  • Plastic Surgeons
  • General Surgeons
  • Infectious Disease Specialists

Recently, the Center was relocated from within the hospital to a free-standing facility on the hospital campus. The facility and its services were expanded to include two new hyperbaric oxygen chambers to provide specialization in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), an innovative treatment for the non-healing wounds of many diabetic patients and other patients. Up to 18 percent of wound care patients may require HBOT treatments provided by physicians at the Wound Care Center. These physicians are specialty-trained in hyperbaric medicine, along with our highly trained clinical hyperbaric technicians and staff.

We are located on the Laurel Regional Hospital Campus at 7400 Van Dusen Road, Laurel, MD 20707.
