In-Hospital Birth Center
Low risk women looking for an unmedicated birth can choose to give birth in our in-hospital birth center. The birth center features a home-like setting with an in-room Jacuzzi tub, a large shower in a private bathroom, and a double bed. A water birth is an excellent option when delivering in the birth center. The birth center is close to emergency facilities, if needed.
Hospital Labor and Delivery
Women looking for a more traditional labor and birth can be attended on the labor and delivery unit at with access to medications during labor including epidural analgesia.
Vaginal Birth After Cesarean Section (VBAC)
Women who have had a cesarean section and would like to try for a vaginal birth, or those who have had a successful VBAC in the past, can be attended on the labor and delivery unit.
Mother/Baby Unit (Postpartum)
oThis unit was recently renovated to include private rooms with European showers, comfy sleep chairs, and individual TVs in wooden armoires. And the infant security system will reassure you that your baby is safe while in our care. Midwives and nurses work together to teach you the basics of feeding, bathing, and diapering newborns, so families can go home with confidence in their newborn care skills. Attendance at a discharge class, held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, is recommended prior to going home.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine and High-Risk Care
If you develop complications, we work closely with the Prince George’s Hospital Center perinatologists, doctors specializing in maternal-fetal complications. You will receive outstanding care with the Perinatal Diagnostic Center (PDC).
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
In the event that your baby is at risk for or develops problems, the only designated (level III) NICU in Southern Maryland is located right next to labor and delivery, and just down the hall from the birth center. This is a state-of-the-art 18-bed facility with specially trained staff who will take great care of your baby as small as 500 grams!
In The Office
Prenatal Care
We offer personalized prenatal care at our office in Lanham, MD. Most labs are drawn in the office, saving you time. Sonograms are done off site at many convenient locations, depending on your insurance coverage.
Well Woman Care
We perform annual gynecologic exams, including Pap smears. We also test for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), when indicated. We provide individualized, holistic care to women of all ages – from young women for their first gynecological exam through women post-menopause.
Preconception Care
Preparing for pregnancy is one of the best ways to ensure a healthy baby and mom. At a preconception visit, we can evaluate overall wellness, identify potential problems, and teach methods to avoid them in the future; setting the groundwork for a healthy pregnancy.
Family Planning
We offer a variety of family planning options from the birth control pill to intrauterine devices (IUDs) to meet your individual needs.
Menopause Management
There are many ways to make this natural transition period more comfortable. Come talk to a nurse-midwife about ways to manage this special time to maximize your quality of life.
