The Total Joint Program
Comprehensive Joint Care at Laurel Regional Hospital is comprised of a dedicated team of orthopedic surgeons, nurses, surgical technicians, and physician assistants focused completely on your well-being.
A pre-operative interview is given to each patient by the preoperative screening nurse, anesthesiologist, and a physical therapy representative. They will discuss patient-specific medical history and instruct on preoperative and postoperative care. They will also address any questions you may have and provide a quick tour of the surgical suites and the physical therapy departments.
In addition, our hip and knee replacement team are here to meet any needs you may have. Our goal is to assist our patients in their retun to a quality life. This is achieved in part by offering:
- Private patient rooms.
- A comprehensive orthopedic team to care for every patient.
- A plan of care and patient teaching before, during and after surgery.
The Horizon Surgical Group
The Horizon Surgical Group has joined our facility and is performing state-of-the-art endovascular cases. This specialty has allowed for some patients to have surgery on their vascular system, and return home within 24-48 hours. These procedures are either performed in the Cardiac/Vascular Catheterization Lab, or in the Operating Room. The addition of this group of vascular specialists has positively contributed to our mission to provide high quality healthcare services to our community.

Surgical Services at Prince George’s Hospital Center
Each year, more than 10,000 surgeries are performed at Prince George’s Hospital Center in our new Pavilion. This 2-1/2 story, state-of-the-art facility includes a 24-bed Critical Care Center and 10 highly advanced operating suites. Four of these are reserved for the most critical procedures such as open-heart and neurosurgery.
The 24-bed Critical Care Center located on the third floor has sophisticated, high- tech equipment to care for critically ill or injured patients.
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides a safe environment for patients following an operative procedure for which anesthesia has been required. It is an area of our hospital designated for “recovering” from the immediate effects of anesthesia before either going home or on to another in-hospital destination. The PACU staff’s primary focus is to ensure that the patients awaken safely and comfortably.
Many surgical procedures, which used to require hospitalization, are now done safely and conveniently on an outpatient basis, on a schedule, which accommodates both you and your doctor. Our state-of-the-art surgical facilities offer many same-day surgeries. In our Short Stay Center, we are well equipped to perform everything from open-heart surgery to various same-day surgeries.
Within the hospital’s Pavilion, the Short Stay Center treats a growing number of same-day surgical patients. Typical same-day surgeries include biopsies, cataract extractions, laser surgeries, hernia repair, laparoscopies, arthroscopic, reconstructive and oral surgeries. Special surgical suites, recovery rooms and waiting areas give same-day surgery patients the best in pre- and post- operative care, monitoring, comfort and convenience.
