Employee Health FAQs

Q.  What are your hours of operations?

A.  At Prince George’s Hospital (PGHC) location the hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday

At Laurel Regional Hospital (LRH) location the hours are Monday and Friday: 7:00 – 11:00 a.m.; Tue & Thu 10:00 a.m. –2:00 p.m.; Wed 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.

Q. What documents do I need to bring with me for a Pre-employment Physical?

A. Proof of vaccinations, Titers (Immunity tests: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Chicken Pox/Varicella); proof of a TB skin test and/or chest X-ray in the past 6 months (to avoid repeating this); Glasses (if needed for distance); all prescription bottles; photo ID.

Q.  What is an Annual Health Update?

A.  Each year, employees are expected to visit the Employee Health Department during the anniversary month of hire (or 30 days before/after) to receive your PPD, or complete the questionnaire if you have a positive PPD history, complete a health update form and have labs and vaccines reviewed and updated.

Q.  How are you different from the Emergency Room?

A.  We have no diagnostic equipment or physicians in this department, we do not handle “major” emergencies.

Q.  Can I use the Employee Health Department for my primary health needs?

A.  No, the Employee Health Department does not and cannot serve as an employee’s primary healthcare solution/provider.

Q.  Do you have medication for employees?

A.  We have on hand over the counter strength Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Antacid, Decongestant, Cough syrup and Anti-itch creams. We do not prescribe medicines.

Q.  What Immunizations do you administer?

A.  Hepatitis B., Varicella (Chicken Pox), Tetanus, MMR (combined Measles, Mumps and Rubella), Seasonal Influenza

Q.  Can my family members receive vaccines in Employee Health?

A.  No, we do not provide these kinds of services to employee’s family members.

Q.  Who receives the vaccines?

A.  Dimensions Healthcare System employees only. No Contractors, Agency staff, Students, Visiting Staff, Licensed Independent Professionals or family members.

Q.  What do I do if I have been out sick and need to return to work?

A.  If you have been away 3 days or more, you must bring your doctor’s return to work note stating you have no notable restrictions in order to be cleared by Employee Health. You must present during the hours of operation, so you can return to your regular duties. It is required that all employees be cleared before swiping in for their next scheduled shift. Please note your supervisor may require you be cleared after returning from an illness even if you have been out less than three days, depending on the individual circumstance of your absence.

Q.  Can I review the contents of my Employee Health Record

A.  Yes, please feel free to call the office and make an appointment to review your record. By making an appointment we can prepare for you and have the chart ready for you.

Q.  Is my medical information kept confidential?

A.  Absolutely. All Employee Health information and records are dealt with in a confidential and respectful manner. No information is released to anyone, even the employee, without written permission. We observe all HIPAA (patient privacy) regulations.

Q.  What happens if an employee is suspected of using drugs or alcohol?

A.  Please report this to a supervisor immediately, the supervisor will then follow the necessary steps needed to get the employee anonymously tested and evaluated.

Q. What happens if I have an Employee Health issue/problem after the office has closed?

A. In some instances, depending on how close it has been to the office closing, you may still be able to reach a staff member by calling. If the matter is not an emergency, and the employee has a question, the Employee Health staff will assist the employee on the following business day. Another option would be to contact the hospital’s Administrative Coordinator on duty who can offer some guidance and direction in the interim. However, in cases of an emergency, please go to the Emergency Room for assistance.
