Residency Program

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Prince George’s Hospital Center

The program provides intensive exposure to the practice of internal medicine and prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers in medicine. During training, residents are encouraged to think critically about important clinical and research issues in medicine while gaining experience in inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Program graduates are well prepared for careers in the practice of general internal medicine, and may choose a career path in primary care or community medicine.

Abundant clinical and research resources exist throughout the Prince George’s community and many graduates pursue these opportunities through clinical subspecialty fellowship.

While the PGHC Internal Medicine Training Program embodies excellence in education, it is truly the camaraderie and spirit of our diverse house staff and the teaching faculty, which make this residency so special.

The Department of Medicine at PGHC offers a three-year program in internal medicine.

The Categorical Program provides core clinical training in internal medicine and meets the requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The department also provides training for interns completing a preliminary year before moving on to other specialties.

Over the past decade, the PGHC Medical Services house staff have been comprised of graduates of more than 60 different medical schools from around the globe.

House staff also come from diverse ethnic and geographic backgrounds.

The Department of Medicine is committed to recruiting, enrolling, and supporting a diverse group of residents who reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of our community and the patients we serve.
