Chinese Government Delegation Visits Prince George's Hospital CenterDecember 2, 2004 Cheverly, MD -- On Thursday, December 2, 2004 Prince George's Hospital Center hosted a tour for 27 high-ranking Chinese government officials from the Henan Province who are attending the Fourth Advanced Leadership Research and Development Program at the Institute for Global Chinese Affairs, which is part of the University of Maryland Among the group of officials touring the facility were vice mayor of the Xinxiang Municipal Government, Ms. Liping Song; surgeon and vice president of Zhoukou City Hospital, Dr. Jiong Liu; and vice president of the medical school of Luohe City, Mr. Chang Liu.
According to the delegation, it was most impressed by the state-of-the art Surgical Pavilion that includes 10 surgical suites (one designated for open heart surgery), two new cardiac catheterization labs and a 24-bed critical care center. While on the tour the group also had the opportunity to view a 4-D perinatal ultrasound of a 36-week-old in utero and visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. As the group began it's tour they were able to witness the state of Maryland's Trauma Team in action as a Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 2 landed at PGHC transporting a trauma victim our level 2 facility. "We have one of the best Trauma System's in the world for our citizens," says Dr. Carnell Cooper, trauma director at PGHC, "it's a great model for any government to emulate."
Prince George's Hospital Center's tour was led by Bob Howell, director of public relations, Paul Blackwood, vice president of planning, and Singh Taneja, vice president and executive director of Dimensions Healthcare Associates. Facilitating the tour were PGHC internal medicine residents, Drs. Bo Xu and Hoa Wang, who are both native to China.
