You will not be able to visit if you are sick with any of the following: Fever, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Runny Nose, Sore Throat and/or Cough. No visitors who are pregnant or under the age of 18. Maternity Center at Laurel Regional Hospital

The birth of a child is one of life's special moments. We at Laurel Regional Hospital's Maternity Center will do everything possible to make this experience everything you want it to be.

The Comfort of Home

For your comfort and convenience we have created a family-centered atmosphere. Your labor-delivery-recovery room (LDR) will be one private room, attractively decorated with comfortable furnishings. Our rooms are designed so your support person, as well as the baby's siblings, family and friends, may visit you and be involved in your delivery.

It is reassuring to know that while resting comfortably, we have a highly trained staff as well as the latest technology and equipment to help you and your baby.

  • Fetal monitoring and neonatal care systems
  • Caesarean delivery room
  • Special Care Nursery
  • 24-hour physician coverage for obstetrics, anesthesia and nursery services

Special Care Nursery

Our special care nursery meets the needs of premature infants and newborns-at-risk. An experienced medical and nursing team, sophisticated monitors and advanced technology provide specialized, split-second response to infants in distress.

At Laurel Regional Hospital, you get the best of both worlds-advanced technology and expert care, plus a warm, intimate environment in which to celebrate the birth of your baby. After you have your baby, you will be moved to one of our attractively furnished, private rooms where we encourage families to spend as much time as they wish with their newborn infant.

At Laurel Regional Hospital we strive to provide new parents with the most education on what it will be like during and after your pregnancy. We offer childbirth classes, infant CPR courses, and tours of the unit .

At Prince George's Hospital Center's Maternal Child Health Unit you will also find all the comforts of home, a warm and friendly team of OB's, midwives and nurses and the only designated neonatal intensive care unit in Southern Maryland.


Maternal Child Health Community Education Classes

Prepared Childbirth Course
Six weekly, 2-hour sessions

This class provides lectures, discussions, films, demonstrations and exercises to prepare couples for changes that occur during pregnancy as well as to teach methods to assist with the labor and birth process. These sessions are designed to:

  • Increase your knowledge of the birth process.
  • Learn lamaze breathing and relaxation techniques.
  • Enhance your ability to make informed choices about your care.
  • Enjoy the emotional and social support of other pregnant couples.
