Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
Cardiac rehab is a comprehensive four-phase program for individuals with heart disease. Community members should talk to their doctor to find out which phase is right for them.

Phase I, usually 1-3 days, begins in the hospital and focuses on patient education and stabilization prior to being discharged. Phase II, 6-12 weeks, continues at The Cardiac Rehab Unit. During this phase, patient begins to exercise while monitored by EKG, and addresses issues such as reducing risk factors and adopting a heart healthy diet. Phase III and Phase IV, continue for life, may be conducted under medical supervision or unsupervised at the home. The goal of this phase is to reduce the risk of future heart problems.

For more information on Cardiac Rehab at Prince George's Hospital Center contact program manager, Michele Larson, RN at (301) 618-2449.

The Diabetes Center Self- Management Education Classes
Diabetes self-management education classes are offered during the day and evening and are taught by registered nurses, nutritionists, a Certified Diabetes Educator and mental health counselor. Classes provide vital information on diabetes medications, blood glucose monitoring, meal planning and how to manage your stress among many other topics - and you can bring your spouse or support person. A monthly support group is also offered so you don't have to experience diabetes alone and can share your experience with others.
